Navigating Postpartum Fitness
***This is a sponsored post.
Guys I want to talk about starting to workout after having a baby. After 10 weeks, I was able to get back to a lighter version of my pre-pregnancy fitness routine. I’m back at Equinox and am doing Barry’s 2-3x per week. I’m feeling stronger by the day, but honestly postpartum fitness has been really difficult to navigate. I think the most important thing (more important than any specific workout), is that you stay positive. Throughout my postpartum journey, I’ve stayed focused on the fact that I have a beautiful baby boy and that I am constantly evolving and moving forward in my life.
After I had David Jack, I did not feel like myself physically at all. And this is totally normal! It takes 9 months to create a baby, why would it make sense for your body to go back to “normal” in just a few days? In the beginning, I was so tired and my body was still healing and sometimes all I could muster was a walk around the block, which is actually a great way to move your body! I am so grateful to have an amazing stroller that I bought at Walmart. It maneuvers well in the city and is super cozy for David Jack - he loves to get in his naps while I’m walking. I started back in the gym slowly. Little by little I was able to work my way back into my fave classes. Each time I take a class I feel stronger, I just have to remember to be patient and loving as I move back towards my previous fitness level. I’ve also started seeing a pelvic floor physical therapist, which has made a huge difference, it is crazy how much pregnancy changes your core. How did you start working out again after you had a baby? Would love to hear your favorite ways to move!
